Right after participating in the National Catholic Social Communication Convention organized by the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (ECSC), members of SIGNIS Philippines gathered for its annual assembly to plan its response to the convention’s challenges.

The GENERAL ASSEMBLY, working on the theme: Discerning the Wisdom of our Heart, was held last Aug 8 at the Aquamarine Recreation Center in Lipa, Batangas. The event gathered different Catholic media and communication groups from all over the Philippines. ECSC Chair, Bishop Junie Maralit challenged the group to keep the flame of faith burning and continue the mission of evangelization through media.

It was also an opportunity to welcome new members and pay tribute to the outgoing Board of Directors. Bernard Cañaberal, Fr. Jojo Buenafe, Fr. Nono Alfonso, SJ, Fr. Frank Lucas and Sr. Cloth, FSP. who served as BOD and officers of the organization from 2015 until 2023, were presented with a Plaque of Appreciation by the ECSC chair, Bishop Junie Maralit and SIGNIS Ph President, Pie Mabanta-Fenomeno.

A planning session per desk followed in order to have a blueprint for 2024-2025. Regional coordinators for Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NCR made sure that the concerns on the ground were integrated into each Desk’s goals.

A short presentation was held by each committee head and an open forum to get insights from the participants followed.

Two key activities surfaced as cross cutting programs among the desks. First, a nationwide media spirituality formation of church media practitioners with special emphasis on Inter Mirifica and Evangelii Gaudium. Second, the creation of guidelines and framework for the social communicators.
